Editor in Chief
Hannah Van Essen
Hello friends! I’m Hannah, this year’s EIC. I’ll graduate in the Spring with an English major and minors in Spanish and Business. My interests include good walks, pithy novels, and 70s rock. I anticipate this edition of The Phoenix to be both fresh and familiar—I’m excited to collaborate with not only my team, but many of the fantastic creatives at Westmont. I look forward to what we will create, together!
Graphic Designer
Kailea Najera
Hi, everyone! My name is Kailea Najera. I am a third year Graphic Arts Major. And, I am the Graphic Design Editor for the 2024-2025 Phoenix Publication. This is my second year working for The Phoenix, and I have enjoyed being able to work with the Phoenix team in creating a platform that can beautifully showcase the art submitted to us. I greatly enjoy all creative works that have the ability to take you into another world, whether that be through the visuals of a piece or from its underlying meaning. Since I was little, I’ve had a love for all things fantasy and science fiction for that same reason. I am also an especially big fan of Studio Ghibli and the journeys through place and meaning that they can take a person.
Writing Editor
Mel Bredow
Hi everyone! My name is Mel Bredow and I am a senior English major. Some of my favorite novels are Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Swing Time by Zadie Smith, and Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. I’m obsessed with coffee, plants, folk music, the 70s, and thrifting! I’m really excited to be the Phoenix Writing Editor because I’m passionate about hearing people’s stories. Everyone has something important to share! I can’t wait to read your beautiful work!
